And inside the folder there will be .package files

Ok, this must be a stupid question, but when you say it will install CASparts, does that mean hair and clothing? I've downloaded all kinds of goodies for my game and I don't even have the game yet! Looking forward to using the program Thanks! justme

Did it right this time and it still failed to create the directories. It looked like there were /s where there should have been \s, I wondered if that was why. However, since I'm on Vista it's probably just UAC throwing a hissy about putting things in Program Files. I went in and created those directories manually. This typo(?) seems to be present when pointing to install directories, too: It's also failing to install patterns.

When I tried to open 10 files at once, so I could just work my way through them batch style, I ended up with the same file being opened 10 times. So I closed all those windows and went through them one at a time, which is not terrible. But if I have to through them all one at a time, I would really like the ability to tab through the options in the program. Ideally, I should be able to install multiple packs without ever having to touch the mouse. I don't like having to switch between the keyboard & the mouse. Why is it recommended to move the .sims3pack files to the downloads folder? Why not "move" or "delete"? In the version before this one I found it hilarious that it would always say something like, "Installation Failed! We're all gonna die!" but the package file went exactly where I asked it to go, so it clearly did not fail. You seem to have fixed the bit that was leaving a java process running in the background for every time I opened the program. THANKS! I left a bunch of things from the store thread uninstalled so that I will have something else to install when you implement all my clever suggestions.

Not a typo. Intentional. \ and / are interchangeable on Windows, but only / can be used on Mac, so I use / everywhere. Quote: It's also failing to install patterns. Please upload any Sims3Pack files that it fails to install. Quote: When I tried to open 10 files at once, so I could just work my way through them batch style, I ended up with the same file being opened 10 times. Ideally, I should be able to install multiple packs without ever having to touch the mouse. I don't like having to switch between the keyboard & the mouse. For batch installation, open a single instance of the program and go to File.../Batch Install. Then choose the directory to install files from. It'll go automagically from there. Quote: Why is it recommended to move the .sims3pack files to the downloads folder? Why not "move" or "delete"? Well as long as it's present in Downloads, doesn't necessarily have to be copied there. I recommend doing this because of the Download management options the program will soon have which will require the presence of the original Sims3Pack files. I suppose it can be move instead... Doesn't really matter either way. Quote: In the version before this one I found it hilarious that it would always say something like, "Installation Failed! However, really, that message SHOULDN'T be seen, so I'm going to add a log catcher next time that will tell me exactly why it's saying that. Quote: You seem to have fixed the bit that was leaving a java process running in the background for every time I opened the program. THANKS! THIS IS GREAT! Yeah, it took me bloody forever to figure out why. I still can't explain exactly WHY it did it, but it did, and now it doesn't. Go figure.

It's working now. Guess it must have been another UAC issue, somehow, because the packs that were failing earlier aren't now (I'm running as admin.)

I don't even know what I did this time. It was working great before- really fast- and now it doesn't seem to be able to *open* files, just sits there saying "Parsing XML data..." for ages.
After you said to try running as admin, I did, and tested it on the two patterns I was having trouble with earlier. They installed fine. I tried a batch install next, and that's when it started doing this. Now it's just sitting there "Parsing XML data" whenever I try to open an individual Sims3Pack with it, too.
It's not outright locked up, I can close out of it just fine, but what the heck happened?
Edit: Thought one of the 3Viewer files might have gotten corrupted somehow, so I reinstalled it. Still the same thing: sitting there on the "parsing XML data" stage even though it was opening files practically instantly before.
Edit 2: Nevermind, problem seems to be the files themselves.

So far, everything works well for me (on mac). The only that does not work is copying the .sims3pack files to downloads. Does this affect it? However, I can't find the custom content in game. It was installed to mods folder which is in the same folder as my sims3.app. Help? Does anyone using a mac have this working EDIT: NVRM! Found the correct path which the mods/packages and .packages should be. http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?title=Sims_3:Installing_Package_Files

I don't have a Mac to test on and I've had a few other Maccers ask me how to do that, but I have no clue so am little help. Sure, with pleasure . Oh, I can add a heads-up; I didn't realize before, because I already had the framework of folders in the right place, but on Macs the Resource.cfg and Mod/Package folders and all that jazz have to be installed in a different path too. I explained it on Sims3Tools, if you want to take a look, here. I don't know how it can be translated in java, i.e. if there's a workaround so java can be tricked to consider The Sims.app as a folder instead of an application. I know for sure it can be done from the shell (like, cd The Sims 3/The Sims™ 3.app/Contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/ etc.)

I'm having the same trouble as InsanityPrelude did, though I don't have Vista as I have XP Home and am running on administrator. The viewer never loads when I open a package. When I tried to install one of the patterns from MTS2, it failed and said to check the logs but there is no file in there. I have tried reinstalling several times. Help please? Not sure what I'm doing wrong . . .
Edit: Nevermind. Apparently the directories at the beginning were incorrect even though I have a default installation . . . Odd. :^\ Appears to be working now though I haven't actually tested it.

I want to thank you for the program, it's wonderful My one issue is, and I think two others (Avi and Insanity Prelude) had this issue as well--trying to get the patterns to install. Avi, what exactly did you do to get it to work? You'll have to go s..l..o..w with me because I am, admittedly, a bit of a technotard. What did you change your directories to, and will I need to reinstall to do this?

In my case, the files giving me trouble were corrupted somehow- you might want to try opening them with something else and see if it works. I re-downloaded the offending files and it worked just fine after that.

Well, I got two different folders with Sims3Pack from two different sources. And I was trying to do it by all possible ways and still the same problem.

I am quite confused. I've tried various combinations with this, and it's the only thing I can see as a problem, but... What do you put in the following section?:
Game Save Location: Usually C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\ [...] (browse)
Game Data Location: Usually C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\ [...] (browse)
I feel as though I've doomed myself to an endless cycle of lack-of-custom content.
It was download from Mod the Sims 3(/2), by the way, and it certainly is in a Sims 3 Pack. I have it in the Library section of the My Documents Sims 3 folder... but there are two of those.
Any help would be appreciated.

@ Syndrome:
I've been using
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Saves
and
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin
I think that's correct.
I am having a hard time with certain stuff showing up in the game too. My problem is, I'm not sure if I should be clicking the "Wait no" button and choosing another place to install them to. For example, what files should go where? Where would we put cars?

Just a couple of notes:
1) I don't think you updated since this was last pointed out, but in case you have please note that the buglog still is not appearing.
2) Your "Welcome!" thing currently says " Other Content: We have yet to see how other content is installed. Will do so once the store goes live." I assume you're ready to update that statement.
Other than that, it seems to be working great! I tested it on a car and a dress and both popped right into my game like magic. You are my hero!
